Review – Secrets by Lorhainne Eckhart

SecretsGenre: Contemporary Western Romance
Series: Finding The Love Series, Book 6
Downloaded my copy from Amazon for FREE on May 1st, 2013

“Jed always told me he’d take care of everything. And I believed him, I trusted him, I loved him.”
From the author of Finding Love ~ The Outsider Series and the #1 kindle bestseller in westerns and romance series, THE FORGOTTEN CHILD, comes the sequel to The Awakening…

For Diana, Jed was the first man she trusted. He was the first man to show her what true love was. He was the father of her child, the one man she could always count on. Until one spring day Jed falls from the roof of the barn and Diana’s world as she knows it begins to unravel.

Diana is forced to face two things, her husband’s secrets and what if… there was no Jed

This series is so moving and really delves into the problems this family faces. Secrets shows how a family pulls together in a time of need and crisis, or how they should any way. I loved the plot and how it played out as well. I am about to start reading the next book in the series because of how into the book the author drew me.

Jed is the epitome of the Alpha male. He just wants to take care of and protect his wife. What he doesn’t realize is that keeping secrets from her about things will only hurt their relationship. Ms. Eckhart demonstrates what it takes to make a marriage work with this couple. They have definitely been through the wringer. She also demonstrates what not to do with Andy and his new wife Laura.

Secrets is not a stand-alone book. It can be read by itself, but to understand certain things, you need to read the series from the beginning.

Review – Country Courtship by Kathy Carmichael

Country CourtshipGenre: Contemporary Romance
Series: The Texas Two Step, Book 2
Bought my copy from Amazon for $2.99 on May 25th,  2013

Rodeo champion and wealthy rancher, Bobby Gray Nelson, is used to women setting out to lasso him. But when he meets feisty Kelli Palmer, she refuses him on every count. He’s always up for a challenge and is determined to woo this beautiful veterinarian who he thinks could be his soul mate.

Kelli Palmer doesn’t believe love is in the chute for her. She’s devoted herself to the animals she cares for and the family she adores. So when her sister claims dibs on the handsome cowboy, Kelli reins in her attraction and tells him to skedaddle.

Losing is not an option for this gorgeous cowboy. He comes up with a 5-step plan to place his brand on Kelli’s heart.

The problem is, he can’t even make it to the first step. Never fear, though. He’s got a Plan B.

Can Kelli stand her ground — even after his toe-curling kiss?

I couldn’t wait for this book in the series. I wanted it as soon as I read the first book. Bobby Gray was hilarious. I loved that even though he was a playboy he realized there was something special with Kelli and couldn’t wait to figure it out. He stuck with it even though Kelli was persistent in resisting his charms. Once she figured out she loved him anyway, Kelli gave it up. She just called and told her sister that she loved him and couldn’t help it.

Then, Bobby Gray does the worse thing he could possibly do. He used her for her title. She flees. I can’t believe she even gave him a second chance. Bobby realized as soon as he noticed how Kelli was acting at dinner that this wasn’t important she was, but was it too late?

A really good book, I wish the third book was focused on Monty Joe, but it’s not. I will have to decide if I’m going to read it or not.

Review – Buck Naked by Desiree Holt

Buck NakedGenre: Contemporary Western Romance
Series: The Naked Cowboys Series, Book 2
Bought my copy from Amazon for $2.66 on May 7th, 2013

“Sometimes out of the frying pan and into the fire is the best way to burn. “

“Naked Cowboys, Book 2”

Amy Stark has it all together except for chronic bad taste in men. She s firmly in hands-off-all-men mode when a flat tire forces her to accept the help of exactly the type of man she s sworn off. Arrogant, cocky and condescending.

When she runs into him again later that day and then finds out her brother has invited him for dinner, the fire between them has a sizzle of a different kind.

At eighteen, Buck Montgomery left home to make his mark on the bull-riding circuit. He may have had wild success in rodeo but his personal life is in the dust, and while he s ready to start a new life he s wary to expose his heart. Buck knows he should tell Amy the truth, but every time he opens his mouth, hers is right there with kisses like molten lava.

When his past resurfaces at the worst possible time, Buck can only wonder if Amy will love the man he has become or if the man he was will chase her away.

Warning: Contains barnyard language and clap-your-hands-over-your-mama s-eyes sex between a cowboy with a checkered past and a ranch girl with all the right moves.

I couldn’t wait for this book to come out. I read Stark Naked (book 1 in the Naked Cowboy series) and laughed my ass off. Buck Naked isn’t that book. There were some funny moments, but it was a more serious book. Amy deserves some happiness. She’s definitely picked some losers and Buck has punished himself enough for crimes he didn’t even commit. He was set up for a crime and it didn’t stick because he had an airtight alibi (he was in jail for public intox). Even though he was proven innocent and charges never stuck, but his reputation was decimated. He couldn’t go back to the rodeo, so he started over.

Amy was everything Buck ever needed and never thought he would want. The fact that these two complete each other so well was beautiful and Desiree wrote it so that the reader understands that easily.
