“Jed always told me he’d take care of everything. And I believed him, I trusted him, I loved him.”
From the author of Finding Love ~ The Outsider Series and the #1 kindle bestseller in westerns and romance series, THE FORGOTTEN CHILD, comes the sequel to The Awakening…

For Diana, Jed was the first man she trusted. He was the first man to show her what true love was. He was the father of her child, the one man she could always count on. Until one spring day Jed falls from the roof of the barn and Diana’s world as she knows it begins to unravel.

Diana is forced to face two things, her husband’s secrets and what if… there was no Jed

Thoughts
This series is so moving and really delves into the problems this family faces. Secrets shows how a family pulls together in a time of need and crisis, or how they should any way. I loved the plot and how it played out as well. I am about to start reading the next book in the series because of how into the book the author drew me.

Jed is the epitome of the Alpha male. He just wants to take care of and protect his wife. What he doesn’t realize is that keeping secrets from her about things will only hurt their relationship. Ms. Eckhart demonstrates what it takes to make a marriage work with this couple. They have definitely been through the wringer. She also demonstrates what not to do with Andy and his new wife Laura.

Secrets is not a stand-alone book. It can be read by itself, but to understand certain things, you need to read the series from the beginning.

Blurb
Selene is thrust into the aftermath of Caedmon pack rivalry when determination to help a friend leads her to the foothills of the Virginia mountains. She doesn’t anticipate that her generosity would earn her a place behind bars and at the mercy of man who saves her from a sentence worse than death. Soon she discovers that Nick is far from ordinary. Under the façade of his commitment to protect her from evil hides a secret that shatters her faith in him.

Nick knew his life would be forever changed when Devin, the new Caedmon leader, honors him with the title of Second-in-Command. With this responsibility, he’s introduced to a web of pack politics and threats. Darius, the banished wolf who lost the most coveted title within the pack, turns out to be a sore loser, and he demands either complete dominance or total destruction. Someone must stop him before he tears down the unity that has held the pack together for decades.

In the midst of it all, he meets a tempting brazen beauty. Selene is not just any woman, and the wolf inside reminds Nick of this fact every time she’s in his presence. She awakens raging passion within him, and he desires her like no other. Nick’s past misfortunes has taught him many things. For one…never trust a woman with his heart.

True love awaits in the path of danger, but will Selene and Nick let the chaos destroy their bond?

Thoughts
This book, Wolf’s Promise was much better than Wolf’s Haven. I loved it. There were some intense moments that weren’t there in the first book. You didn’t know what was going to happen from one instance to the next.  Nick was the perfect Alpha male. I can’t wait to read the last book in the three book set that I bought.

Rodeo champion and wealthy rancher, Bobby Gray Nelson, is used to women setting out to lasso him. But when he meets feisty Kelli Palmer, she refuses him on every count. He’s always up for a challenge and is determined to woo this beautiful veterinarian who he thinks could be his soul mate.

Kelli Palmer doesn’t believe love is in the chute for her. She’s devoted herself to the animals she cares for and the family she adores. So when her sister claims dibs on the handsome cowboy, Kelli reins in her attraction and tells him to skedaddle.

Losing is not an option for this gorgeous cowboy. He comes up with a 5-step plan to place his brand on Kelli’s heart.

The problem is, he can’t even make it to the first step. Never fear, though. He’s got a Plan B.

Can Kelli stand her ground — even after his toe-curling kiss?

Thoughts
I couldn’t wait for this book in the series. I wanted it as soon as I read the first book. Bobby Gray was hilarious. I loved that even though he was a playboy he realized there was something special with Kelli and couldn’t wait to figure it out. He stuck with it even though Kelli was persistent in resisting his charms. Once she figured out she loved him anyway, Kelli gave it up. She just called and told her sister that she loved him and couldn’t help it.

Then, Bobby Gray does the worse thing he could possibly do. He used her for her title. She flees. I can’t believe she even gave him a second chance. Bobby realized as soon as he noticed how Kelli was acting at dinner that this wasn’t important she was, but was it too late?

A really good book, I wish the third book was focused on Monty Joe, but it’s not. I will have to decide if I’m going to read it or not.

Review – Chasing Charlie by Kathy Carmichael

Chasing CharlieGenre: Contemporary Romance
Series: The Texas Two Step, Book 1
Bought my copy from Amazon for $0.99 on May 23rd,   2013

Blurb
Raised in a family of rodeo champions on a South Texas cattle ranch, Charlie wants only one thing: to avoid thrill-seeking cowboys.

Davis Murphy, cowboy wannabe and one of Dallas’s most eligible bachelors, needs a pretty and witty faux fiancée so his widowed mother will marry her longtime gentleman friend.

Charlie, his local librarian, seems the prefect choice.

Charlie’s first reaction is to run, but she’s promised herself to step out of her plain-jane routine.

When Charlie accepts, Davis’s plan is set. But now Charlie’s sweet ways are challenging his bachelor heart.

Thoughts
I loved this book. It cracked me up. I love cowboys, and even though Davis isn’t really a cowboy yet, Charlie’s brothers, more than make up for it. I can’t wait to read their stories.

Charlie has been raised on a ranch and wants nothing to do with cowboys. They are the forbidden fruit. Davis is in no way ready to settle down. After figuring out that his mother won’t marry the man she’s in love with until he settles down, he propositions Charlie, whom he only knows through the library.

This book was fun, but definitely had its serious moments. I can’t wait to read more from this author and this series.

Originally published by Dorchester Publishing, June 2008

Tobias “Toby” Holmes was destined for NBA stardom. But when an SUV crashed into his car during his rookie year, his dreams of playing pro-basketball, along with his spine, were shattered. After floundering from one job to another, Toby has finally found his niche in the music business. And when the singing sensation he discovered is pegged to star in a new reality TV show, Toby finally sees light at the end of what has been a very dark tunnel.

Sienna Culpepper has loved her childhood best friend forever, though he has never seen anything other than the girl with skinny legs, cornrows, and mad skills on the basketball court. When Toby returns to their hometown of New Orleans to start his career as a record producer/manager, Sienna is resigned to loving him from afar. However, when Sienna and Toby find themselves working together, feelings arise that has them both rethinking their friendship.

Thoughts
Basketball is my favorite sport, so I had to check this out. I’m really glad I did, even if basketball played really no part in this story. My husband is from New Orleans, so I love when romance novels take place there and I especially love when it’s post-Katrina.

I don’t know how Sienna came out as well-balanced as she did other than her sister Ivana and her grandmother. Her mother is a Witch with a capital B. I can’t imagine a mother like that. I don’t understand how a woman could do what she does. She is an ungrateful and spiteful woman. Sienna is a beautiful woman who always puts everyone ahead of herself.

Toby has had it rough. He was headed for the NBA when an automobile accident took his lifelong dream from him. He is lost until he finds a great musical talent in Aria and becomes her manager.

Sienna and Toby were best friends all through high school. Once they went to college, they drifted apart. When they start a business relationship, Toby starts noticing that Sienna is not the same tomboy. I didn’t know if these two were ever going to get it together. I’m so glad that they worked it out. I really would’ve liked an epilogue to see how their life turns out. I definitely want to read Alex’s story. He deserves to be loved.

Jack’s support will give Jenna the strength she needs to reclaim her life. The hunted will become the hunter, while David gets what he deserves, when they have an explosive confrontation in the boardroom of Merrick International. But not before Jack and Jenna enter into a fight … for their lives.

Thoughts
I read a review about the third book in The Hunted Series and had to start from the beginning. I am so glad I did. Saved by the Rancher was very intense and deals with a serious issue that happens all too often in today’s society. I was drawn to the characters (the main and secondary) and couldn’t put this book down. The plot and story line was amazing. I did find parts of the conversation seemed stilted, but it only lasted a short while and only happened a couple of times. It didn’t take away from the story or the book.

Jenna has lived through hell on earth, literally. I don’t know how she overcame everything she did and stood as strong as she did at the end. She is a woman every woman should aspire to be. This is an amazing story. I even shared a synopsis with my husband and he said they should make a movie (he doesn’t read books). I would definitely go see this movie though.

Review – Sleeping with the Enemy by Laurie Breton

Sleeping with the EnemyGenre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Jackson Falls, Book 2

Blurb
Hard experience has taught Rose MacKenzie Kenneally that men can’t be trusted. But when gorgeous high school English teacher Jesse Lindstrom sweeps her off her feet at her brother’s wedding, Rose temporarily forgets that she’s given up on men forever. Eight weeks later, the unthinkable happens when this thirty-six-year-old divorced mother of two teenagers realizes she’s pregnant by a man she barely knows.

When Jesse proposes marriage, Rose digs in her heels. She cherishes her hard-won freedom, and no man, no matter how infuriatingly sexy or nice, is going to take that away from her. But her teenagers are running wild in the city. Her ex, Eddie the snake, is too busy with his new trophy wife to be bothered with something as trivial as fatherhood. Luke and Devon need the stabilizing influence of a man like Jesse Lindstrom. So she accepts Jesse’s proposal with a few conditions of her own.

Jesse wants a real marriage, but Rose is determined to resist his charm. The harder she resists, the harder he pushes, and indifference becomes increasingly difficult. But Rose carries a dark secret, one she’s kept hidden for twenty years, a secret that could destroy their shaky marriage. When Jesse faces a serious accusation, Rose is forced to confront her demons head-on. Is Jesse Lindstrom the one man she can trust? Or will she discover that she’s sleeping with the enemy?

Thoughts
Ms. Breton is a new-to-me author, who has a lot of potential. She established the characters particularly well, and the story surged along seamlessly. This couple had insurmountable obstacles to overcome, with three teenagers among the two households; I couldn’t imagine this happening as well as it actually did. I figured it would take longer than it did. The truth of the matter is the kids dealt with it a lot better than the adults. Devon surprised me in the way that only teenage daughters can, standing up for her mother even as she gives her hell.

Both Rose and Jesse have been put through the ringer when it comes to love. Neither is willing to count on the other or willing to give their all to the marriage and they sense the other one doing the same to them. The fact that they still fall in love with each other is amazing, especially considering the fact that they withheld so much of themselves from each other. I will definitely be reading more about Jackson Falls.
